Youth Summer Clinics Coordinators hired!

Summer is just around the corner, and Ultimate NL is excited to offer youth clinics to community groups, summer camps, kids’ camps, and not-for-profit organizations on the Avalon as part of its summer clinics outreach program with the hiring of two Summer Clinics Coordinators, Will Kerr and Jayden Byrne.
The summer clinics outreach program aims to introduce and showcase the sport of ultimate to as many kids as possible. Will’s introduction to ultimate began back in junior high, and since then says he “really likes the community of people it creates because it is a very welcoming group that has something for everyone.” Jayden’s introduction to the sport of ultimate was a little different. She learned about ultimate at a summer camp, and says she has “been involved with the sport, playing recreationally, on and off over the last few years.”
Each clinic has a different focus, but community groups, summer camps, kids’ camps, and not-for-profit organizations will get instruction on throwing and catching techniques and basic game play fundamentals/strategies. Participants will also get the chance to scrimmage each week in small-sided game play.
Will began coaching his old school teams once he graduated high school, and he’s been learning new coaching skills and taking on new coaching opportunities ever since. For him, as a summer clinics coordinator, “being able to teach Ultimate is a great opportunity to have a summer job and do something he is passionate about.”
Jayden grew up playing sports, and she has always enjoyed working with children. So, for her, the ability to combine the two, as a summer clinics coordinator, gives was the perfect opportunity. Jayden goes on to say that she “always enjoyed the close relationships that she formed with her teammates and coaches.”
On behalf of Ultimate NL, Will and Jayden will hopefully teach ultimate frisbee to a greater number of youth than ever before during this summer season! In the first two years of running the summer clinics outreach program, UNL has been able to reach over 2,000 kids. For Both Will and Jayden the most important thing for them is that everyone has fun and enjoys themselves. Will goes on to say that “If we also happen to have fun and grow the ultimate community in NL as a result this summer, then that’s a bonus!”
Youth clinics offered range from beginner to advanced skill levels, and are open to all ages. The best part, Will and Jayden will travel to you to conduct your clinic.
Interested groups are welcome to come learn and play ultimate frisbee with us this summer! Clinics can be booked through all of July and August by contacting Will and Jayden at summerprograms@ultimatenl.ca.
Clinics, as part of the outreach program, are free (with donations always being welcome to offset the costs of reaching rural locations).
