Coaching course for teachers

Ultimate NL is pleased to offer teachers an upcoming free opportunity to become certified ultimate Frisbee coaches!

Open to kindergarten to Grade 12 teachers, this one-day PE in-service will be offered from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 29 at the NL Sports Centre on Crosbie Road in St. John’s.

Participants who complete the course will become fully certified as National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) ultimate community coaches. Workbooks, reference materials and lunch are provided.

There is no cost to participate but registration is required through member services with the Newfoundland and Labrador English School District (NLESD).

The Ultimate Community Initiation Coaching Course is designed for coaches who work with new or entry-level players. The workshop will focus on how to instruct basic throws and rules to develop fundamental skills of the game in a safe and fun environment.

You’ll learn about:

  • Your role as a community coach in ultimate
  • Knowing about the participants you are coaching
  • Identifying ethical issues in the ultimate community
  • Practice planning and ultimate safety
  • Basic throws and catches of ultimate
  • Communicating and interacting with participants
  • Planning to lead an activity
