The Memorial Ultimate Touring Team (MUTT) sent its first team to the mixed Atlantic university championships recently, finishing fifth overall.
Thirteen players (five female-matching and eight male-matching) travelled to Mount Allison University in Sackville, NB on Oct. 5-6. Eight teams competed in the tournament.
MUTT finished with a 3-3 record.
The team has participated at the Canadian University Ultimate Championships (CUUC) for the past seven years.
Co-captain Emily O’Dea, who has previously played with MUTT’s open squad, says the team wanted to focus on providing more players with opportunities to travel to tournaments this year.
“Last year, despite not having the numbers for a women’s team, there were some female-matching players and some male-matching players who were not attending CUUC, who were interested in other tournament opportunities,” she says.
“As soon as we realized that we wouldn’t have enough female-matching players to field a women’s team this year, we started planning to send a mixed team to Atlantics to ensure that as many students as possible could compete against other university teams, something we don’t have the opportunity to do within our own province,” says O’Dea.
“Our goal with MUTT is to provide as many students as possible with the opportunity to play spirited and competitive ultimate through the Canadian university series tournaments.”
MUTT mixed is also captained by Victoria MacKay.
