Canadian University Ultimate Championships (CUUC): an annual national tournament in which university ultimate teams compete. This year marks the fifth time that the Memorial Ultimate Touring Team (MUTT) has competed in the tournament.

Similar to previous years, MUTT competed in the Friday qualifier (October 13th) and then CUUC Division II (October 14th and 15th). However, this year was anything but similar for MUTT. For the first time ever the team brought two ladies with them: Jacqueline Mills and Emily O’Dea.

“This fall was my first experience playing for an open team and my first time attending CUUC’s. The level of competition was really high and it was great to play against unfamiliar teams. The MUTT guys and Jacky were spirited, supportive teammates and overall the weekend was very enjoyable on and off the field. Can’t wait for next year! – Emily O’Dea

“After playing for the past 4 years for the women’s team at McMaster University it was a really unique experience to play for MUTT. I have never played on a men’s team before and I learned a lot alongside some talented, fun and supportive guys (and Emily). MUTT was a great way to start off my first few months in the province.” – Jacqueline Mills

Another unique aspect of this year’s team was Ryan Aspell, a beginner ultimate player.

“Going to a national Tournament only a month after starting ultimate was an amazing experience! Getting to learn the ins-and-outs of the sport and all its rules really tested my ability in the sport. Also knowing that I only had a month to prepare for a national tournament really pushed me to constantly strive to become better and practice the skills I learned, as well as gaining a greater appreciation for the sport!” – Ryan Aspell

In the end MUTT placed 13th/22 and obtained an average spirit score of 11.4/20. Great work!
