Technical Director

Job Description/Duties

ABOUT THE POSITION

Ultimate Newfoundland and Labrador Inc. is hiring an Technical Director to lead day-to-day operations, organize operational matters, assist the Board of Directors with programming and services, coordinate volunteers, and liaise with stakeholders and partners including sanctioned leagues, club teams, facility operators and the National Sport Organization, Ultimate Canada.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The Technical Director will act as a representative of Ultimate NL to members, the public, stakeholders, partners, and other external organizations.
  • The Technical Director will assist with administrative work related to Ultimate NL operations (e.g. website maintenance, Ultimate Central (website/ online store) maintenance, league and tournament logistics, membership renewals, youth provincial tournament logistics, junior provincial team management, field bookings, proposal writing, etc.
  • The Technical Director will create connections and network with stakeholders across the province (e.g. community centers, day camps, schools, municipalities, recreational groups, etc.) to arrange clinics, leagues and tournaments to further grow the sport.
  • The Technical Director will assist the Board of Directors with the creation and execution of fundraising activities to enhance the organization’s revenue generation.
  • The Technical Director will assist the Board of Directors with proposal writing to obtain grants from the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, the Government of Canada, and other foundations/ organizations as applicable. 
  • The Technical Director will assist the Board of Directors with the delivery and logistics related to programming, clinics, tournaments and youth leagues.
  • The Technical Director will assist the Board of Directors in developing a long-term strategy and vision for the organization and related and appropriate execution of the strategy. The Technical Director will supply the Board of Directors with information necessary to plan, execute, and track progress toward strategic objectives.

Screening Criteria

  • Experience in leading and managing sport and/ or not-for-profit organizations.
  • Experience in financial management and operating with a balanced budget.
  • Experience in stakeholder relations and management.
  • Graduation from an accredited university with a Bachelor’s degree in a related field.

Assessment Criteria

  • Knowledge of sport organizations (knowledge of ultimate frisbee is considered an asset but not a necessity).
  • Project management skills.
  • Administration skills.
  • Sound decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to independently manage time and tasks.
  • Professionalism.

Conditions of Acceptance

  • The Technical Director will work remotely.
  • Occasional travel throughout the Province may be required.
  • Use of a private vehicle is a requirement for this position.
  • Use of personal electronic devices (computer and laptop) and will be included in the compensation package.

Additional Information

Work Type: Full Time (30 hours per week)

Compensation: $39,000 per year + Overtime and Performance Bonuses

Ultimate Newfoundland and Labrador (Ultimate NL) was formed as a governing body for ultimate activities in Newfoundland and Labrador in 2004. In 2017, Ultimate NL obtained Provincial Sport Organization (PSO) status, and is now recognized by Sport NL as the organization in charge of directing ultimate activities in the province. Ultimate NL has over 1,000 members that it is responsible for.

The goal of Ultimate NL as an organization is to promote the growth and development of the sport of ultimate in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Ultimate NL is run by a volunteer-led Board of Directors.
