On March 19th volunteers from Ultimate NL organized an Ultimate workshop for high school students participating in the program Sharing Our Cultures – Youth without Borders. This cultural exchange program involved high students from the Inuit community of Kugluktuk, Nunavut who travelled to St. John’s and newcomer high school students living in St. John’s and representing a number of diverse cultures from around the world. The entire group then travelled together to Kugluktuk where the youth from St. John’s experienced life in a remote northern community.

The Ultimate workshop was lead by Nick Harris, with help from Sherry Lythgoe, Dan Ryan, Pat Quigley and Laura Zwicker. While some of the students from Kugluktuk had played a little Ultimate before, this was the first time for the students from St. John’s. Nick did a great job introducing skills, running a few drills and getting them to play a spirited game by the end. It was so
rewarding seeing the smiles on the faces of the students when they were successful in completing a skill! All of the students who participated had a wonderful time and it was an excellent way for the group to get to know each other better. Thank you very much Ultimate NL for making the workshop happen!
