2025 SSNL Outdoor Tournament Highlight Recap

2025 SSNL Oudoor Regional Tournament Winning Team – Mount Pearl Senior High

There is something about playing Ultimate frisbee outside on a field, especially in the Fall in Newfoundland and Labrador. The crispness of the air, and sometimes the foggy and rainy haze that athletes must play in.

Those are the exact conditions that high school athletes faced during the SSNL Outdoor Ultimate Frisbee Tournament held on November 2, 2025, organized by Ultimate NL. Mount Pearl Senior High School hosted an exciting 6v6 co-ed Ultimate Frisbee tournament at the MPSA turf field, marking a significant event in the local sports calendar.

Aaron Power, the tournament organizer, expressed his enthusiasm for the event, stating, “This tournament is unique for several reasons. One, it’s outdoors! Most local tournaments for youth are indoor. Secondly, this is an SSNL tournament and so a school puts a request to host it through School sport NL (SSNL).”

This tournament, which featured four school teams competing in a spirited display of athleticism and teamwork, creates an opportunity for students to experience Ultimate frisbee in a different environment.

Aaron goes on to emphasize the importance of this event in promoting the sport, adding, “Our goal is to foster interest across the province, paving the way for more tournaments and ultimately elevating Ultimate Frisbee to a varsity sport.”

Mount Pearl Senior High emerged victorious, with Crescent Collegiate taking second place. Nick Bishop was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player, and Mya Critch was named the tournament’s Most Spirited Player, both from Mount Pearl Senior High.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to all participating teams, coaches, and volunteers who made this tournament a success. Together, let’s continue to grow this vibrant sport across Newfoundland and Labrador!

Aaron encouraged other schools to get involved. If any school athletics director or coach is interested in hosting an Ultimate Frisbee tournament, please reach out to schools@ultimatenl.ca or youth@ultimatenl.ca for assistance.
