2022 Storm Junior Provincial Team CUC Wrap Up

Storm Ultimate junior open and junior women teams travelled to Brampton to compete at the 2022 Canadian Ultimate Junior Championships held from August 21-24, 2022.

During the two-day tournament, the Storm Junior Women team finished the tournament with a 12th place finish, the highest finish for a junior team from Newfoundland and Labrador. They also finished second in spirit! For the team, they opened the tournament with the women’s programs first victory against the Rebellion Ultimate team, and went on during day two with a great game against the 2019 champs, Toro Ultimate.

Storm Junior Open team went into the tournament with three players on the roster who had previously played at CUCS, and nevertheless they all played hard. Seeded 16th, the open team played in every game with one game having seven consecutive brakes, which helped them finish by breaking seed to get 15th out of 20 open teams. They also finished third overall for Spirit, showing that you can play hard and still play with respect and great sportsmanship. Storm finished with a record of 3-4, which is the most wins for the Storm Open team at CUCS so far. For the team, one major highlight was that of the 388 open junior players, they had a player finish top 4 overall with points score and 6 in the top 100.

What a great way to end the season for Storm’s junior open and women’s teams! We can’t also but help to give a big round of applause to open coaches Craig Stoyles, Jaxon Mayo, and Alex Butler, along with women’s coaches Hilary Walsh, Michael Walsh, and Natalie O’Donnell who inspired, taught, and helped each of the storm athletes to prepare for the CUC’s!

Our thanks also go out to Veterinary Specialty Centre of Newfoundland and Labrador, the exclusive team sponsor for Storm!
